From the club conception to today

June 2009
A two page questionnaire asking about setting up a club for Swedish Vallhund owners is sent to:
  • All New Zealand breeders,
  • A lady that has kept the database,
  • Two pet owners (picked at random),
  • Two people who compete in Agility and dog sports
July
Eight of the ten questionnaires return with a wealth of ideas and suggestions.

A Club logo is designed.  The name the 'Swedish Vallhund Club' is adopted, with the map of New Zealand added to the logo.  The name New Zealand is not added to the official club title so that it doesn't have to be dropped upon possible future affiliation to the N.Z.K.C. (as is their requirement).

August
An internet domain name is bought and a website is started to be built.  Mrs Rose Madsen is approached about being our club patron.  Interest is building in the SV community.

September
Four people are now working towards forming a temporary committee.  The first edition of the new Vall-Voice is being written.  The name "New Zealand" is added back into the Club name, but left off the logo.  So that if and when the NZ has to be dropped the logo remains unaltered.

October
The website is finished.  The old database is overhauled and updated.  Membership requests start rolling in.

November
The inaugural committee meeting is held, in Auckland November 20th.  A club Secretary, and President are voted in. The offers to join the committee that have come from the Vall-Voice mail out are unanimously accepted.  A Treasurer is appointed out of the offers and the meeting minuted.  Hans and Rose and also Ian Gray are offered Life Membership to the club.

February 2010
The second meeting held, this time in Otago.  Where it is decided to work towards becoming an incorporated society. Much work in promotion of the club and breed is undertaken and a count of the membership reveals over 100 people so far have joined the club to date.

July
Committee meet in Christchurch.  The committee secure a place in a popular animal TV show and Apollo and Anna Thompson get to meet Olympic Gold Medalist Sarah Ulmer for the filming of Animal Accademy.

August
The committee and friends travel from around New Zealand in Hamilton to attend Pet Expo.

Our club Patron, Rose Madsen passes away after a difficult battle with cancer.

September
Apollo and Anna screen on TV in New Zealand show casing our little breed. The snippits of information about Swedish Vallhund's appear between other articles in the show.  Here they are edited together.

October
